Art Linkletter’s background is about as spectacular as any of us has ever known beginning by being an abandoned orphan in the wilderness of north Saskatchewan to becoming a world-wide known broadcaster having originated two of the longest shows in broadcasting history.
Most of us know about his broadcasting career which spanned more than 60 years, including Art Linkletter’s House Party which ran on daytime CBS-TV and radio for 25 years and People Are Funny, which ran on night-time NBC-TV and radio for 19 years. But that is only the tip of the iceberg – the quickly melting iceberg I might add.
Art Linkletter has written 28 books, the latest best seller, with Chicken Soup for the Soul author Mark Victor Hansen, called How to Make the Rest of Your Life, the Best of Your Life. This book is an encyclopedia of information guiding the seniors of America towards a successful and happy life.
Art has served on President Nixon’s National Advisory Council for Drug Abuse Prevention; on the Presidential Commission to Improve Reading in the U.S.; on President Reagan’s Commission on Fitness and Physical Education; and he was named Ambassador to Australia and Commissioner General to the 150th Australian Anniversary Celebration by President Reagan.
On February 27, 2003, Art was awarded the National Humanities Medal, presented to him by President George W. Bush. He is currently serving on President Bush’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
Equally well known as a businessman, he has been the CEO of numerous corporations and has served on many boards of Directors including MGM, Western Airlines, Kaiser Hospitals, and the French Foundation for Alzheimer’s disease…to name a few. As Chairman of the Board of Linkletter Enterprises, Art oversees international enterprises too numerous to mention and in his spare time, he is Grandfather and Great Grandfather of 17.
But Art feels one of his most important credentials is his association with Solargenix Energy, the leading provider in the design, manufacturing, integration and deployment of solar thermal renewable energy systems that address the cooling, heating and power needs of residential and commercial markets.
Art is the chairman of this phenomenal company, but I will let him tell you about the work the company is doing. For now, I would like to invite to the stage to receive his award for the work he has done with Solargenix Energy and on behalf of our environment, Mr. Art Linkletter.
